Dream about getting a tattoo

Getting a tattoo is a way for the mind to rehearse how it leaves a permanent mark on a life. This dream occurs when the brain is sorting through the ways a person chooses to define themselves or the ways they have already been defined by their history. The symbol works to make a current state feel solid while things are shifting.

The act of getting a tattoo involves the mental processing of what can be changed and what must remain. A dreamer may find themselves weighing the weight of a decision that cannot be undone. This process provides a space to consider the permanence of one’s current direction. The mind finds a way to test the stability of a chosen path.

A hand tattoo shifts the focus to how an individual applies their strength or performs their deeds. The dream indicates that the commitment being processed is tied directly to the dreamer’s capacity for action and their ability to help others.

Getting unwanted tattoos or getting bad tattoos suggests a fear that an identity is being imposed rather than chosen. This dream brings up the discomfort of being shaped by forces that do not respect the dreamer’s will.

Getting multiple tattoos or getting lots of tattoos increases the complexity of the consolidation process. The sheer number of marks implies that the dreamer is navigating many different facets of a changing self at once.
